Knitting Hats for Babies in Russia
"I originally started making newborn hats for my
local hospital.
I wanted to learn to loom knit and I love to be creative.
This was an opportunity to combine the things that I love
with a service project. Seva (a Punjabi term for a work of service) is an
important part of me.
I have been to India
My thought was that, maybe, Russia
I've heard Father Mike's stories about Russia
When I heard that father Mike was coming to Alaska
I felt there was a great need and it would be cool to
think that babies in Russia
I told myself that no matter what happened, knitting hats
was a good idea, even if Father Mike had no room in his suit case.
I would just have more hats to take to India
It takes my about 1 hour to make a newborn hat and two
hours to make a small toddler hat.
So, in the time of about one movie, I can get two to
three hats done."
